Ink Playground – October 3rd

Welcome to the Ink Playground!

Some inks are easy to find. Others take years to come across. Ink Playground is a relaxed, hands-on fountain pen ink session featuring 150 inks drawn from a single collector’s personal archive — a collection built bottle by bottle over the years, spanning different brands, colour families, special properties and harder-to-find releases. For one day, in conjunction with Inktober and Pelikan Hub Kuala Lumpur 2026, part of that private collection is being opened up for the fountain pen community to explore, compare and enjoy together. Expect familiar names alongside less commonly encountered makers and lines such as Birmingham Pen Company, Kobe Ink, Robert Oster, Troublemaker, Ink Institute and Colorverse, with a few exclusives and limited releases mixed in for good measure.

Across four themed stations, participants can swab, dip-write and discover everything from soft shading and saturated sheen to shimmer, permanent inks, multi-chromatic effects, experimental colours and collectible bottles. Move through the stations, compare inks side by side, and perhaps finally try an ink you have only ever seen online. This isn’t a class, and there are no right or wrong answers — the whole point is to play, experiment and discover something unexpected. Further information on the materials provided for the session, and anything participants may wish to bring, will be updated closer to the event date.

About the Facilitator — @rotw

@rotw started collecting fountain pen inks in 2016, back when “just one more bottle” still sounded like a perfectly reasonable thing to say. What began as an interest in fountain pens quickly became a much deeper fascination with inks — the colours, the quirks, the impossible-to-photograph sheen, and the occasional bottle that looked completely different once it hit paper.

Years spent working abroad made the problem considerably worse — or better, depending on how you look at it. Different countries, different brands, different releases, and plenty of opportunities to bring home bottles that somehow always found space in her luggage. Ink Playground is a small, curated slice of that journey, shared in the hope that others might discover an unexpected favourite… or at least leave with a slightly longer wishlist than they arrived with.
